Feature: Florencia D. Major (Life in Cabins)

One day in early 2020, Ecofan was tagged in an Instagram story that we instantly fell in love with. An old, well-used Ecofan original spun away on a wood stove in a beautiful cabin while a smooth soundtrack played in the background. The whole vibe was warm and friendly and transported us to a winter cabin paradise. We had to send thanks and find out more.

Turns out Florencia D. Major doesn’t just live in a cabin; her whole life revolves around cabins. @lifeincabins is an account dedicated to the cabins she’s visited and the cabins she wants to visit. Kind of like a vision board that's only cabins. Which, when you think about it, is a kind of a perfect vision board, because if you’re spending time in a cabin, it’s probably time well spent. So, we absolutely had to send her another Ecofan, just to see the cabins it might end up in!

Canmore, Alberta is one of Canada’s most picturesque locations, assuming you’re into mountains, lakes, and forests. Flore (IG @flore_dmajor) couldn’t have chosen a better location to honour her love of cabins and the outdoors. Where are you right now? If you could, tell us about the home your Ecofan is in and the
surrounding area.

I live in beautiful Canmore, a small town that stole our hearts the minute we arrived. We live in a cabin originally built in the '60s and remodelled a few years ago. It's close to downtown but far enough away to feel like we live in the woods.

Tell us about yourself. Why’d you choose your lifestyle? Why is it important to live a life
that includes heating with wood? 

I'm originally from Uruguay where it’s really common to heat with wood. Fire is something we use as a cooking method, often for barbecues and it’s a huge part of our culture. I find fire something mythical, hypnotic, familiar, and the biggest way to find comfort. Having a fireplace in the cabin is one of the things we value the most.

Tell us about your wood stove. How long have you had it and how often do you use it? 

We use it everyday in winter and even some days during the summer, just for the pleasure of using it (lol).

How did you learn about Ecofan? Which Ecofan model do you have? How’s it working
out for you? 

Actually, we found an old Ecofan model in the cabin when we moved in. At first, we didn't know what it was, then one day I placed it on the stove and it started working! I was like: "Omg this is the coolest thing.” Immediately, I googled "Ecofan", found your Instagram account and discovered an entirely new universe (haha). I have two models, the "Original" and the "AirMax", they work perfectly and I love them both.

It’s a weird time for the world. How have you been affected personally or how has your
lifestyle changed recently?

I work as a Social Media Manager and Content Creator so my work-life wasn't affected, however, Covid changed a lot of our plans of travelling and receiving visits from our families, which is what we miss the most. It is a weird time; I hope we as humans and as a society can learn from this and build a new and wiser reality.
