Chelsea and Dan are one such couple who have shared their story with us, and we are truly impressed by how they have embraced the lifestyle and are choosing to explore every bit of beautiful Australia. We’re Chels & Dan from @living.simple_van. An adventurous couple who loves hiking, surfing, nature and travelling our beautiful home country. We chose this lifestyle as we wanted to live a simple life, have more free time to do the hobbies that we love and see and meet the incredible towns, beaches, and people our country has to offer. We started living in our first van in 2020, and we travelled up the East Coast of Australia. We returned home for the year of 2022 to build our next tiny home on wheels in our 1991 Toyota Coaster bus and to spend quality time with our family and friends.

We left Adelaide in early 2023 and drove our bus along the incredible Eyre Peninsula before crossing the famous Nullarbor Plain and entering the wild and beautiful Western Australia. We are currently on the Coral Coast of WA. This is a stunning location filled with turquoise coastal beaches with white, soft, beautiful sand, which is perfect for a nice beach walk with a cup of coffee.

We live in our Toyota Coaster bus full time. It has a retro shape and although she’s been around for a while, she has so many adventures left in her. Our bus has such a clean body, minimal rust, and only has 338,750 kms on the clock… with a 1hz engine… those engines are known to do a million kms, so we have a lot of adventuring to do in this bus. We are planning to live in our bus home for the next few years and are completing our bus build whilst travelling.

We had two Sirocco fans in our first tiny home on wheels and loved how cool they kept us, even in far North Queensland. So, we decided in this bus to have three Sirocco II fans to keep us extra cool. We have two fans over the bed area and one fan in our lounge area. We love having Sirocco II fans to allow for maximum airflow in here to keep us cool and comfortable always. The fans are also super quiet, so we can sleep easily with them on each night.

Our plans at the moment are to slowly travel to Western Australia whilst also visiting home to see friends and family often. We plan to continue building our bus into our comfortable home on wheels and are trying to have a balance between adventures and working. We love this lifestyle a lot, and we are hoping if we can find the balance between travel and spending quality time with our family, friends, and community, then this lifestyle is a perfect one for us. We could live on the road for another three years or another 30 years… only time will tell… if we keep enjoying life on the road and living in a tiny home on wheels then we will keep living it. Plenty of adventures to come we think!!

We still have a lot of Western Australia to travel, Northern Territory, Tasmania and we absolutely love the East Coast and our home state of South Australia… so many adventures to go on.
